I am looking for ideas for book check out time. I have stressed to the teachers
over and over about the importance of reminding the students to bring back their
books on their check out day. I even went as far as placing notes/emailing them
about the next days checkout, but inevitably I always have a few students who
forget their books, and they are usually the unreliable ones so I don't let them
check out any more than what they already have. I can recall one class that
consistently had 50% of the students forget their books.
This leaves a gaggle of students with nothing to do. I don't want them shelving
books ( as I stated, unreliable) and when I tried to put them on the computer to do
various webquests my forgotten book rate went UP because the rest of them would
rather be on the computer. Worksheets don't work because I can't keep track of 1500
learning levels and end up giving a kid who can't read or write a too hard
worksheet which causes problems. I find the behavior problems get out of control
when they don't bring their books backs. They just don't want to do anything. any
suggestions? It's a K-6 school.
