I like the idea of a class "getting" to have a library animal for a week if
they all return the books. I, too, do something for the whole class. I
have a prize box where each student gets to take a prize if all books are
returned. The kids love it. If the only names on the overdue list are
students who are absent, the class still gets prizes. Where do I get my
prizes? I use the "baseball cards" at the front of the Sports Illustrated
for Kids magazine. Sometimes I get stickers in the mail, like from
Highlights magazine. I also go to the Illinois State Fair and go to all the
booths that give away stuff like keychains, pencils, crayons, stickers, etc.
The most popular this past year were the sheriff's badges from the State
Police, some "tattoos", and all the wristbands. I had two shades of green,
blue ones, and orange ones. When I go to the booths, I always tell the
person that I am a teacher, and they usually give me extras!

The classes that usually quailify are 1st,2nd, and 3rd. But, I, too had a
fourth grade class that qualified once last year, and they were really
excited about getting a prize.

This year I'm going to try to come up with a prize of some sort for classes
who get all books back several times. I like the idea of a travelling
trophy. I might be able to come up with someting for that.
