I cannot speak for other parts of the country, but when I decided to go to graduate school for library science (about 5 years ago), we were ALL told that there was a severe shortage of school librarians. So much so that the state allowed certification via the "alternate route" method. I don't want to stir up trouble by commenting on THAT program, but suffice it to say, there is a glut of school librarians now. I am happy and fortunate to work for a great district, but it's time students were told the truth. Ellen Nosal, MLS Library Media Specialist Walter C.
