A few were interested in my results, so I thought I would post a "hit". I
haven't tried any of the sites yet.

Try inspiration
** You can get a 30 day free trial ** It's great for flow charts,
organizing info before writing a report, etc.

A number of responses mentioned the LDS site:
The LDS church has a wonderful, FREE software program to record and print
out your family tree called PAF 5. PAF stands fro Personal Ancestry File and
5 is the version. You do have to register (name, email) but there is no
obligation, cost, etc. Some members of my genealogy club have been using PAF
since it was in a DOS version. Here is the link.

http://www.familysearch.org/

Just scroll down a bit and look at the lower right hand side in a yellow
box. That will take you to the registration and download page. Although it
was design for members of the LDS church, it has proved itself very popular
among non-members too, due to its ease of use, flexibility and
organizational features. If you are not church member, just ignore the boxes
for sealings, ordinances etc.

If you go to:
http://genealogy.about.com/

On the left there is a free template for a simple family tree. This one
would be good for a classroom activity.

For this one, scroll down about halfway and look for the yellow block where
you will see a free download of the FamilySearch program called
PAF..........

What ever program you get make sure it will export a Gedcom.ged file. This
is the equivilant of a text file in Genealogy programs. If you have to
purchase. Stick to a known publisher Ancestry.com, Roots.com

Family Tree Maker by Learning Company originally by Broderbund Is what I
have used for years. You can purchase different level and I believe you can
purchase and download.
