My district is in the process of moving to Follett's Destiny. We are considering
purchasing our hand held scanners (Image Team 3800g) from an online source that
sells them at a substantially lesser cost than Follett. It seems the scanners are
the same, except that Follett uploads something called "firmware" which ensures
that all bar codes will scan. Across our district, we have 14 digit barcodes, so I
do not think this will be a problem. Our biggest concern is how difficult it may
be to get the scanners working properly. If we purchase the scanners from Follett,
they will provide technical support. The online company we are looking at also
provided technical support, but I'm not sure if they are familiar with Destiny.

If you have ordered your scanners from an online vendor that specializes in
scanners, were you happy with your decision? Why or why not?

I will post a HIT if there is an interest.

Thank you,

Alma
