Hi. I just got called in for a telephone interview for a Media Position in
a basically inner city school. I had another interview the other day at a
Junior High School but did not feel I gave a sufficient answer to the
question of how I would deal with a charge of being prejudiced. I think the
person that got the job is the person whose job I will be interviewing for
today at an elementary because I did think they liked me, just not enough.

I have worked in a school with African-American children, plenty of Hispanic
students, and also went to school with about 50% Cherokee people as I was
growing up and never had prejudice be a consideration. I have dealt with
other children picking on each other for their cultural backgrounds and used
the opportunity to explain we are all basically the same with the same needs
and desire to be respected and to learn. Once, I involved a parent when her
child was being given a hard time due to her background. But I have never
been accused of racism.

How would you answer that question?

Thanks in advance for your help and keep your fingers crossed! I am excited
about a chance to challenge myself at this point in my career and feel like
I would like to try to work with more underprivileged students than I have
in the past.
