Actually, the "one-stop shopping" IS available for users to access
online databases through their library's catalog through federated
searching. I've provided this direct access in two different school
libraries over the past five years.

Some of the database companies allow librarians to download database
content into the online catalog; this information provides users with
access to the subject / keyword search OF the online catalog to the
subscription database articles without logging in or changing from one
module to another (going in and out of the catalog to the databases).

(This is one of those workshop presentations that I hope to soon be
able to provide to librarians who are's not that
difficult, it's just knowing that it's available.)
