A reality check is always good. When I started doing workshops on Holocaust
education I received blank looks from conference planners, scheduling as the
after lunch speaker on the last day.....You get the idea.

Librarians face much of the same lack of understanding from other conference
planners. We should keep planning, proposing, and writing. We should also
do what we can to bring board members to our conferences. Can you imagine
them surrounded by hundreds or thousands of librarians excited about their
profession and talking about the impact they make on students?

To draw upon my childhood memories...It would be like bringing the lukewarm
into a revival meeting. Some may never be converted, but we can light a
fire in some cold hearts.

We have found that a library is not an end in itself, but a means to many
ends.
