A few requested a hit. I spared everyone the politics of my situation, but suffice it to say that dealing with a rich PTA has its pros and cons. They didn't like the idea of me buying "only" $10 speakers with their money, so I had to get the techies' approval on things. Some time between my first request to them ("we have no recommendation") and my principal's request to them ("the $109 set is the only one we recommend"), something was lost in translation. Turns out that the $109 set, once they finally gave me the specs, is for a portable PA system, not basic computer speakers. I ended up going back to zones.com and ordering 24 watt speakers that cost us $23.99 each - and I still think we spent too much and got too much speaker - but, you gotta play the game. Here are the responses. I lost a few because I recently switched e-mail accounts, but most said they use the smaller speakers with no reported problems. I bought Altec Lansing speakers from Staples (I think they were about $30.00) to put on our LCD/Laptop carts. I think that they have been fine. I have not heard any complaints from teachers. I think that I bought the next size up for our lab. If you need more info, I can look up that one as I know it is larger and was more expensive. In each of our classrooms, we use $5.00 speakers from Big Lots. No one has ever complained and they don't run on batteries.
