I have been "encouraged" not to replace or add to anything in my VHS or
DVD collection. But the reason is more because of abuse by teachers.
But what gets to me is a few have ruined it for the rest. I cannot
replace "Grapes of Wrath" because someone showed "Finding Nemo" in
Marine Science etc.

Subject: Purchasing videos

I was just wondering if any other Media Specialist had been encouraged
by either their principal or school system to not buy any more videos
for their collection? I have been told that I may not want to build the
video collection for two reasons: 1) United Streaming has now been in
place for two years at my school and 2) at some point all school may
switch to a central tower versus individual towers at individual
schools. I even know of one school in my system this year that has
already been told to remove all VCR's from the classrooms. I am just
wondering if anyone else is encountering this situation and what you are
doing about it? I know the teachers at my school will not be happy that
the video section has not been updated again. Thanks.
