I want to thank everyone who participated in the survey I created during
this past spring semester, about teaching information literacy skills.

The highest percentage of respondees were from Pennsylvania and Texas, and
the furthest one was from Australia.

The results are as follows:

   1. Are information literacy skills taught in your school?

*Yes: 83.3%*

No: 16.7%

   1. What model do you use?

*Big Six: 50%*

REACTS: 0%

ISP: 0%

Specifically designed model: 31.8%

Other published model: 13.6%

working to adopt Big6"

"I am learning about Big6"

   *
   4. Who is part of the committee? (If a model is already implemented,

   Classroom Teachers(s) 57.1%

"I just selected it on my own."

   1. If no, what have been the challenges in doing so?

"Too many other changing requirements and expectations for staff. NCLB, etc.
has made teachers feel overloaded with too many changes and new
requirements."

"None at this point. I replaced the librarian who retired (after 33 yrs)
last spring. It has taken this long to find a replacement and I have been
busy reducing the mounds of catalog cards and other old-style library tools.
I plan to begin implementing the Big6 next year, but will be self-taught. I
would be interested in taking the classes, but am also attending school to
become a principal and cannot take the online class at this time."

"My district selected Big 6 for its model. Our district library coordinator
was the one who selected it. At my school research is not a priority; state
testing is! Even after the testing frenzy the few teachers who ask students
to research do not collaborate with me to teach research skills."

"Time to develop lessons and model Ability to convince my librarians this is
necessary. Convincing principals that librarians need to do this because
classroom teachers are not. Ability to convince teachers that librarians do
something."

"organization at the library curriculum level. Librarians in the district
have various assignments other than being a media specialist"

"Our Library-Media Center has been in temporary quarters for most of this
school year during a "modernization" program, but I think the primary fact
preventing info literacy being taught is the overbearing emphasis on the No
Child Left Behind law including standardized testing requirements. Any more
it seems that every teacher's work is "teaching to the test" first."

   1. In which state are you a librarian?
   Alabama 1
