I want to agree with Shonda. Nicole did an amazing job. I want to congratulate her
on a job well done. It is just so unfortuanate that people always see the good once
a person is gone. They don't appreciate and are blind to what you have achieved in
1 year. Shame on them. What will they do next year and for the years ahead ??? What
about the hundreds of children who missed out on the opportunity to have such a
wonderful, innovative person as their librarian ?
I got real tears in my eyes when I read that your position has been cut. It was
like someone throwing a bucket of cold water in my (her... our ) face. I noticed
that she is from Coldwater,MI !!! .hmm,hmm...
Mark my word...she will be sorely missed. That is the time that I won't even go to
a farewell reception when they give one...
That is my 2 cents.
You know, not to open another can of worms now. Sometimes , we as librarians take
our work too lightly. We studied long and very hard and then we pretend that " agh,
our work is easy" .Librarians are most of the time very humble and I heard many
times that people will say ,:"If I can do it, you can do it" That is therefore
that we must speak out against these nonsense and stop "down talking " ourselves .
And we must always stress the fact that we are more ( WAY MUCH MORE) than book
stampers and babysitters . We are a VALUED proffession. I never heard a doctor or a
lawyer for that matter say :"If you can do it, I can do it" Can anyone just walk in
a doctor's room (without qualifications) and practice as a doctor.
No,no,no,no,no,no...
Please, I agree with Shonda, send Nicole's statement to everyone who has eyes to
read!!!! She msot certainly done much more than those things that she mentioned!
She deserves an applause....but not only that. SHE DESERVES TO BE REINSATED IN HER
POSITION and not be out, job-hunting !!!

Why does this insanity continue? Why do we ALLOW it to continue ?

Nicole's statement should be sent to every administrator, legislator,
parent, and library supporter....look at the effort made to begin a
wonderful program, the process that started a world of opportunity,
the ideas for new projects.... and then read the bottom line:

"Unfortunately my library media position has been cut and I will not
be here next year at all."

I'm certain that if a football coach came into a school, whipped the
team into shape, brought in a whole crowd of supporters that grew each
week under the "Friday Night Lights", took the team to their first
state play-off, and placed in the top three in the state that NO
administrator, school board, or executive committee would STOP the
momentum built by the coach.

Why does this insanity continue?
