Ooops! Another answer came: . . . there may be some who disagree, but I would try to keep books that teach ASL (American Sign Language) and weed out those that teach Signed English. There are two easy ways to tell the Signed English books - 1) they have separate signs for "I" and "me", "he" and "him" etc.2) they use English word order and have a "sign" for each English word. You might ask an ASL instructor from a local college to help (Is that overkill?) I have been takking ASL classes for several years now and share what I have learned with all my students. If there is interest and enthusiasm for sign language you might want to look at some dvds from Little Hands Productions. Sign Times is a great series, particularly # 13 "Welcome to School."
