Hello LMNetters;

  For the past two years the ALA Washington Office has been working hard to get
school library media specialists included in the highly qualified category of NCLB
as well as full funding for Improving Literacy Through School Libraries. They have
done a fantastic job and produced results.

  On Tuesday, June 26 - Library Day on the Hill, Senator Reed will introduce the
bill to include school library media specialists in the highly qualified category.
When the bill in the House and Senate are numbered AASL will be back in touch with
you to deliver that message and encourage you to contact your Senators and
Congressmen to support the bill. Rally the support now so we can flood them with
letters of support as soon as possible.

  But first -- if you are attending annual conference come to the press conference
that Senator Reed (Democrat) is holding for the introduction of this bill -
especially if you are from Mississippi as Senator Cochran (Republican) is
co-signing the bill. The press conference will be held on June 26th at 12:00
o'clock at the Cleveland Bookmobile (Big and Blue---You cannot miss it) which will
be on South Capital Street between C and D Streets on the House side. Come early as
it is only a 15 minute press conference.

  Please send this to anyone -- all librarians -- all listserves!!!
Thanks for your support for all school librarians!!!
