I saw this show last night as well and was very annoyed with the question
and answer. Fiction books ARE assigned a Dewey number (in the 800s). It is
just that most libraries choose to keep all fiction books in a "Fiction"
section because this method is much more user friendly. So this show
portrayed a wrong answers to be correct as well as phrasing the question
in a very confusing manner.

Subject: GEN: game show mistake?

Did anyone else see the new game show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader"
tonight?
One of the questions was in the category of 3rd grade reading. I didn't
see the
whole show, and came in on this question. But I think it said:

"True or false? Fiction books are NOT assigned numbers in the Dewey
Decimal System".

The woman contestant and all of the 5th graders answered false, and they
were told
this was correct.

Am I crazy? Did I see it wrong? I think everyone got tripped up by
semantics -- it
was confusingly worded.
But if I saw it correctly, this is perpetuating incorrect information to
however
many millions of folks watched the show.
