The saga continues!

My original request was for help in identifying the origin of the phrase
"sage on the stage" and the companion phrase "guide on the side."  A
likely source seemed to be Jamie MacKenzie. 

I'm so impressed by three LM_Netters who dug deeper to help me find some
more information on this phrase.  The earliest reference I have so far
is a citation to a 1982 publication by Joseph Renzulli which uses the
phrase.
