As the person with both hats on my head.... We encourage the use of USB flash drives. The virus scan software is set to check the flash drive when any file is opened. Hence, the security of the district/school network is preserved as well as possible. The standard hardware setup is set to force the USB drive to drive letter B: to avoid conflicts with other network drives in place. We provide information to all users on how to safely remove the USB drive. We do not allow the use of U3 software on the USB drives. We help users remove this software that allows for programs to be run from the flash drive. This is a security hole we decided not to open. Hope this technical response helps give some light to the issues involved. It can be a win/win situation for the students and educators. -- Joanne Troutner Director of Media/Technology Tippecanoe School Corporation Lafayette, IN jtroutner@tsc.k12.in.us "To boldly go where no educator..."
