While there has been a lot of reaction to my original request and several requests for a HIT, I haven't been able to come up with any facts/figures/studies yet to support my request. Here in my library, as I said before, I have not given up. I do pull books for every assignment - this is sure to attract students who otherwise would not even look for books. I have had a good budget so my collection is current, relevant, and appealing. I get a lot of satisfaction when a student picks up a book and says "this book has exactly what I was looking for!" This is usually said with a certain amount of surprise. I am not anti-technology, but it almost seems like you have to come across that way sometimes to keep a balance. What I'd like to try to address here in my school is the prevailing attitude that the teachers have, thus my subject heading. I wanted some hard facts and statistics. I'd like to have them behind me too and somehow I can't get my message through. Sometimes I think that at least a small part of it is that they themselves are uncomfortable finding materials and reluctant to admit that so they feel safe turning kids loose on the computers. And don't even ask about using the database subscriptions - that's a rant for another day. If I should come across anything to support my original post, I will pass it along. Thanks to all who took the time to reply.
