[LM_NET] TARGET: Identify this short story?

Here are the vague details that a teacher remembers about a story she 
simply must have: It might be O Henry, but if not, it does have an O 
Henry ending. It concerns a man riding a subway and he sees three men 
sitting close together. At the end it is revealed that the man in the 
middle is dead and being held up by the other two. The teacher thinks 
that the story may be called "The Man in the Middle" but I was not able 
to find an O Henry story by that name. Can anyone identify this story?
