I had to repost this with a better signature... Kim Thatcher Library Media Specialist and French Teacher The Knox School Saint James, NY 11780 kthatcher@knoxschool.org ----- Forwarded Message ---- From: Kim M <kimberleym_2000@yahoo.com> To: LM_NET automatic digest system <LM_NET@listserv.syr.edu> Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2007 6:15:42 PM Subject: HIT: Library clubs Thank you all for your replies-- many requested a hit, so here is the gist of it: I had plans for my library club, but with school event scheduling and all I hardly got to do anything. I did a library scavenger hunt I found online just by plugging in the words into Google! That was good for 3 meetings. I did post a hit last year which you may be able to find, but I saved a lot of the info that was contributed last time I was thinking about this. I am in a 7-12 private school that still is not automated... Things to do: blog of book reviews, newsletter, they create thematic bulletin boards, suggest new books, movie days with book tie-ins, making a library crew to shelve and process books, poetry (this is the time to do it!), creative writing, field trips to public libraries and do read-alouds, I did a pentomino challenge with Chasing Vermeer (middle school) Movies and More: The Librarian (some liked it); How about a fun look at librarians in the media? You could show "The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag" "The Librarian and the Spear", "Ghostbusters", "Music Man", etc.; Mayeb you can make up a Jeopardy game? I have one I use and the kids really enjoy it. Some of the categories are "Books into Movies" (books that have been made into movies), "Name that Book", "Author Please", "Newbery Winners", etc. We have buzzers, but you can use anything that makes a sound (different sounds for the different teams); How about "How to Deal" (it's a combination of two Sarah Dessen books, and it has an interview with a YA librarian about YA books). I hope you can use some of these ideas! Kim Thatcher Library Media Specialist and French Teacher The Knox School Saint James, NY 11780 kthatcher@knoxschool.org TV dinner still cooling?
