Fred mentions the controversial nature of this book. I know from working in
Montana that many, many Native Americans find this book offensive on many levels.
(Please read many of the on-line essays.) Therefor I don't think it is appropriate
in a school library except in the professional collection. Certainly, students at
this level do not have the background knowledge to read this book intelligently.
If it is offensive to many Native Peoples, why would we include it in our
collections? I don't think this is censorship, but selection appropriate for my
patrons. I do have it, but I am going to reevaluate.
