Dear colleagues- In the past, I have found that my book return rates at the end of the year were greatly improved if I could offer some sort of small incentive to students who returned all their books. I've used erasers, mini high-bounce balls, plastic tops, and other small toys, mostly, purchased from one of the companies that sells such things by the gross for pretty cheap. However, I've been trying be more "green" in my personal life, including a "no buying cheap imported plastic junk" policy, so the thought of dropping $50 or more of my own money on school incentives that fall into that category is definitely rubbing the wrong way. Therefore... I'm looking for suggestions. Can any of you think of some incentive I can give out to encourage book return at the end of the year? I already do a bulletin board listing classes who have turned in all their books; I need something for individuals. Items must be: a) small b) easy (no labor-intensive crafts) c) very cheap (I expect to give out almost 500 prizes and would like to spend no more than $60, as this comes out of my pocket) d) at least as appealing to K-5 students as cheap imported plastic junk Thanks for any ideas! If requested, I will post a hit.
