Hello wise ones,

I work with incarcerated teenagers as a school librarian and would like to
find ways to collaborate with the Career Ed. teacher beyond developing our
Careers Without College holdings and hosting a career day.

The students I work with do not currently have internet access. Many of
them are not sucessful in traditional school settings, but look forward to
regaining their freedom and pursuing careers as mechanics, plumbers, construction
workers, computer specialists, lawyers, and youth workers. (Besides, that is,
the general plan to make it big as basketball players and rap stars.) A decent
percentage of them have some experience as entrepreneurs in illegal
businesses.

I am looking for any and all suggestions for materials that are "hip."
culturally diverse, and accessible while providing excellent information on the
careers themselves as well as things tangentially related to this field. Any
programs and activities besides career day will be greatly appreciated as well.

Please help!

I will post a hit if folks are interested. E-mail me at
literacyforteens@aol.com.

Thank you,
Jessica Fenster-Sparber
