[LM_NET] TAR: Book title needed

Hi all,
 
I have a student looking for a book.  He said his teacher read it aloud
to him 3 years ago and he doesn't remember the author, title or most of
the book - he just remembers that he liked it.  Here's what I can get
out of him...
 
There are two kids and they donate books to an orphanage.  They found a
hole in the woods and it led to a garden where the orphanage was.  They
also had a dog.
 
I know it's not much to go on - any help would be great!!
