Our principal asked me to chair a task force that would examine the pros and cons of weighted classes. Some of our staff members are concerned that students do not take the "harder" classes so that they can protect their GPA. Other staff members are offended by the "harder" connotation. One staff member said her class may not be necessarily "harder" but there is a very strong rigor in her expectations - both in knowledge learned and amount of student work. How do other districts weight classes? Or have you discovered an alternative system which encourages students to take advanced sciences and math and higher level History/English classes? We are currently working on a 4.0 grade point and that is the system area colleges are accustomed to. Thanks for any input you may have on this topic.
