My question was "We have Dell, windows 2000 workstations. When users login,
a profile is created on the workstation. Students spend way too much time
revamping their desktop background picture. I would really like to disable
this. I have searched and found directions but those directions only "fix"
the user logged in. The next user can still right click and get to
properties. Does anyone know of a software program, application or other way
to diable the option to change desktop background picture?"

Unfortunately, none of the posts solve my problem but I will pass them along
in case they do solve someone elses problem. I did find this web site and
their suggestion worked but only for my login. As soon as I log off and
another person logs in, they can again make changes.
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/registry_tips.htm - also, your tech support
people may object to your working in the registry.

Several people mentioned Clean Slate by Fortres Grand which puts the
workstation back to the default setup once the user logs out. (I want
something that will prevent the changes all together.)

Also mentioned was Deep Freeze.

If your workstations are on a Novell network there is a setting at the
network level that will turn off the profile editing ability. We had that
problem also until profiles were turned off.
(We don't have Novell we have Windows 2000.)
