I need some expert advice, please. Should I keep the old Contemporary Authors series (by Gale) in my reference section? I have about 115 volumes in the series, ranging from 1964-1994. The previous librarian evidently stopped buying them in 1995 and I haven't bought any since taking over in 2000. They get very little use, maybe once a year. I understand that they could provide a lot of information for a student, but almost all students will either use the Internet first or some of the other reference books I have on authors (that are easier to access the information). We will be tagging books for security purposes, and inventory, too, if we move to an RFID system. I cannot see the value in tagging this many books at a cost of fifty cents per tag (RFID) or the time involved. The other librarian here, however, does not like the idea of weeding them. So-HS people, do you still have these volumes? Should I keep them or weed them? Please note that I cannot afford to add the electronic database of Contemporary Authors from Gale. Thank you for your help; it is greatly appreciated! Please respond to me at jackie.landahl@csd4.k12.mo.us. Jackie Landahl, Library Media Specialist Grandview High School Library 2300 High Grove Rd.
