The Youth Services Section and the School Library Media Section of the New York 
Library Association are proud to announce the 15 finalists for both the

*       second annual 3 Apples Book Award, New York State Children's Choice Award 
and the 
*       first annual Teen 3 Apples Book Award, New York State's Teen Choice Award. 

 

Children across New York State have nominated the following titles:

 

Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

The BFG by Roald Dahl

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson

The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss

Eldest by Christopher Paolini

Eragon by Christopher Paolini

Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J. K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J. K. Rowling

Hatchet by Gary Paulsen

Holes by Louis Sachar

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

Matilda by Roald Dahl

The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

 

Teens across New York State have nominated the following titles:

Holes by Louis Sachar

My Brother Sam Is Dead by James Collier

            The Outsiders by S.E.Hinton

            Son of the Mob by Gordon Korman

            Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

            Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

            

We would like to thank all those school and public librarians, children and teens 
that participated in the nomination process for these exciting children and teen 
choice awards. 

 

All New York State children in grades 3-6 (ages 8-12) and New York State teens in 
grades 7-12 (ages 13 and up), even those that did not participate in the nomination 
process, are encouraged to read or listen to at least 3 of these nominated titles 
before the voting begins January 1, 2008.
