LM_NET Archive

I just wanted to share an experience with LM_Netters since I know many
of you also maintain printers in your libraries and schools. For
background, for about 7 years I was the technology coordinator for our
small rural district as well as Library Media Specialist. Three years
ago I asked to be relieved of those responsibilities. At that time they
hired a full time technology person. After 2 years he left, and now the
Kindergarten teacher is taking those responsibilities. It has been an
"interesting" situation at times.

We have had an HP color LaserJet 4600n in the MS/HS library for about 5
years. It has run flawlessly all of this time. I had always ordered
only genuine HP toner for all of the HP printers. This year, in a cost
savings measure, remanufactured laser toner cartridges were ordered (not
by my choice or with any input from me). Last week my usually very
happy 4600 started having red blotches on the papers. There was echo
printing of clip art. Photos of faces made you believe the individuals
had a bad case of rosacea. Cleaning helped slightly. This morning we
replaced all of the remanufactured toner cartridges with genuine HP,
cleaned again, and once more I am getting the high quality I've come to
expect from the 4600.
