AMEN! LM_NET has been my lifesaver. I first learned of it after I copied all of Peter's website,(all without permission). I thought everything on websites was free reign. When I found out differently, I e-mailed him and apologized. Not only did he forgive me, he gave me permission to copy anything I wanted. He also told me about LM_NET. He has inspired me to take classes I never thought I'd take. I will be attending my first library conference, CSLA in November and guess what? Peter is presenting. Aren't I lucky? So thank you, and good luck. Just keep an eye us! I appreciate all your hard work and everything you have done and will continue to do, so we can serve our students. By all means THANK YOU. Retirement activities? Are you scared? Okay not really, but it kind of scary to think of LM_NET w/o Peter and Mike at the helm. Introduction to the new team was very good, and I feel better already knowing more about them. Change is never easy (and boy do we have enough of it), but I know LM_NET will transition nicely. We all love it and will work for continued success. Success to Mike and Peter as well!! It is very difficult to put into words how this group, this connection to people and information made my job as the lone T-L in a small isolated school district feel like I wasn't alone, that I actually had at my fingertips the best support group ever! I didn't have to wait to talk to somebody; all I had to do was send a message and in a few minutes a plethora of ideas and answers were waiting for me. Now, with all of us working together, we keep each other information literate - ahead of the curve usually. The sharing that goes on is just amazing and I for one would be lost without it. Thank you! Of course, there is no formal assessment of this kind, but anyone who has examined LM_NET is highly impressed with the quality of discourse as well as the sheer volume of members and messages. Simply put, LM_NET is extraordinary. When we started LM_NET 15 years ago, (with less than 100 members in June 1992) we had no idea that it would prove to be so valuable and far-reaching. This is a credit to all of us. It is highly appropriate that we look to the next phase of LM_NET. After 15 years, it is time for us (Peter and Mike) to step back. We (Peter Milbury and Mike Eisenberg, LM_NET co-founders and co-moderators), are pleased to announce the transition to a new team of co-moderators for both LM_NET and its affiliate, EL-Announce With LM_NET Select. We will stay involved as advisors and "co-moderators" emeritus, but the the transition to the new team will take place starting immediately. The team will be comprised of three co-moderators who have been long-time, close associates of either Mike or Peter, and who have had long-time associations with LM_NET. The new co-moderators are Blythe Bennett, Michelle Walker and Sue Wurster. Each will focus on various roles needed to operate and support the two list servers. Michelle Walker will serve as the "public" moderator of LM_NET, assisting, guiding and supporting the membership in with a regular, visible presence. She will continue with her LM_NET Select publications, now posting them directly to EL-Announce With LM_NET Select. Blythe Benett will serve in a "behind the scenes" role as Tech Support Moderator for both LM_NET and EL-Announce With LM_NET Select, approving message postings from members on "review" status, assisting those who are having difficulty singing on/off, and helping with a variety of other technical problems. Sue Wurster will also serve in a "behind the scenes" role as Moderator for EL-Announce With LM_NET Select matters, developing and upgrading the EL-Announce Website, adapting to new online technologies, serving as vendor liaison, working with Internet service providers and overseeing financial matters. Blythe is well-known in library media circles as a manager in AskERIC and the KidsConnect Q&A service. She works at Syracuse University in the School of Information Studies as the Assistant Director of the School Media Program. Sue Wurster is currently executive manager of Big6 Associates. She worked at the Information Institute of Syracuse and the ERIC Clearinghouse as Publications Manager. Michelle Walker is a credentialed California Library Media Teacher, currently employed as Librarian/Technology Coordinator at Hamilton High School in Hamilton City, CA, a California Distinguished School. For the past seven years Michelle has made the selections for the thrice weekly publication, LM_NET Select. In that role she has read every LM_NET message posted, and selected those for publication in collaboration with LM_NET Moderator, Peter Milbury. Walker is also co-author of The Best of LM_NET Select 2001, a Linworth Publication. As noted, both Peter and Mike will serve as Moderators Emeritus, working closely with the new team of moderators during the transition period. They are both looking forward to having more time to enjoy various aspects of retirement and other activities. It's been a great ride! It's not easy to turn over your "baby," but we have full and complete confidence in the new team. PLEASE welcome and help them. LM_NET is simply the best - and we want to ensure that it remains that way.
