I too, want to offer a big THANK YOU to both Mike and Peter for
creating this unique worldwide online community that often feels so
small and so comfortable that after time you begin to feel that many
are your closest friends---and meeting them in person is like
connecting with a long-lost family member! The experience is like no

I joined in 1995 when I started my Master's degree---a "requirement"
that I found myself monitoring for two semesters because of the
coursework that made LM_NET a mainstay for those who were entering a
new era of librarianship coupled with technology. After a year of
practicing the art of listservs, I was hooked.

LM_NET was the ONLY mentor, guide, and voice of reason for me as a
"single person library" librarian for the next five years. Like Doug
Johnson mentioned in his blog, I too have met some of my "best virtual
friends" through this list...people that I would never have known
otherwise. The guidance, care, and genuine friendship that this list
has provided to thousands of us may never be known to those outside of
the community, but I know that LM_NET has definitely made its mark in
the "history of librarianship"....and it is a great honor and
privilege to have known those who created this community and those who
have guided each of us during these past 15 years. Your impact will
be felt for years to come! We are better librarians because of the
work you have done and we are much more humble when we reflect on the
impact of your contributions to our profession!
