My fifth graders are doing research on Native American Nations and as I circulated I heard "Cool, they spoke Spanish!" I hustled over to see how this conclusion was reached. I asked the group if the Comanche Indians really spoke Spanish and how did they know. One young man pointed at the index to the word Spanish. "It says Spanish so they must have." I asked him to check the page numbers to see if they spoke Spanish or had contact with Spanish explorers. Bet you all can guess the answer to that one. -- Pam Gelbmann, Media Specialist Wilson Elem.
