Assistant Professor of Library Media
Southern Utah University

Southern Utah University’s Gerald R. Sherratt Library invites
applications from individuals with vision, creativity, energy, and
initiative to apply for this faculty position.

Founded in 1897, Southern Utah University has a long history of serving
the community of Cedar City and its surrounding areas.  Nestled in the
heart of beautiful southern Utah, famous for its colorful national
parks, monuments and high desert scenery and home of the Utah
Shakespearean Festival, SUU is one of the fastest growing institutions
in the state.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Coordinate, promote, develop and assess the School
Library Media Program; Teach online courses in the library media program
which includes course development; Teach an online information literacy
course required for all students; Scholarly activity, professional and
community service as required by the University; Reference desk service,
which may include nighttime and weekend assignments; Collection
development for assigned subject area to include selection and
maintenance of such materials; Other assignments as required by library
administration.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND SKILLS:  MLS from accredited library school or
equivalent education; Doctoral degree required for tenure; Teaching K-12
or training experience preferred.
Experience in teaching college level online courses preferred; Strong
oral and written communication skills; Knowledge of library print and
electronics resources required; Exceptional interpersonal skills and
ability to work successfully with a wide variety of constituencies;
Ability to adapt to continually changing circumstances; Evidence of
potential for earning tenure and promotion to full professor; Ability to
work harmoniously with students, university faculty, staff, and
administration.

POSITION INFORMATION:  Salary: $40,000.  This is a 9 month tenure-track
