You can view a Webcast of Philip Pullman reading from and discussing The Golden Compass at the Union Square Barnes & Noble at the following link: http://media.barnesandnoble.com/index.jsp?fr_story=6dfa60d369541d1b84f484bbce0de4399f3ccf06&z=y&cds2Pid=17096&linkid=1047112 The Interview with Pullman on the today show is available HERE (transcript and video), during which he directly addresses the accusations: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/21595083/ A response to the Snopes.com entry by Kansas State University English Professor, Philip Nel, and by Boston University professor Donna Freitas can be found here: http://www.hisdarkmaterials.org/news/his-dark-materials-books/responses-to-anti-religion-claims All of these are good resources to point out to people, perhaps by linking on your school website, but also to photocopy and have in hand to give to questioning parents. A copy of the ALA Code of Ethics may be helpful as well, as you are certainly not shoving the book down anyone's throat-- they are free to purchase if they choose--but you are protecting the right to access information, as well as well-written, award-winning, well-reviewed, literature. Our school does not have an all school email system. We have what we call Power School where students and parents can see grades, announcements, etc. =20 =20 At this point I have no idea if we can integrate Power School with Destiny so that students and parents can see library information. Today I have been working on getting photos and some other information on Destiny. Basically it is a save to hard drive and then put into Destiny process as far as the photos go. I know there has to be way that Destiny can just "get" this stuff from Power School but our tech people haven't figured that out. Anyway enough griping from me on that. =20 Today I have been running a vote between what teachers prefer to happen. English teachers handing out notices or Seminar teachers handing them out. It's a tie vote.
