A response to the Snopes.com entry by Kansas State University English Professor,

All of these are good resources to point out to people, perhaps by linking on your
school website, but also to photocopy and have in hand to give to questioning
parents. A copy of the ALA Code of Ethics may be helpful as well, as you are
certainly not shoving the book down anyone's throat-- they are free to purchase if
they choose--but you are protecting the right to access information, as well as
well-written, award-winning, well-reviewed, literature.

Hello everyone. I have a teacher asking for books around Kinder and 1st
Grade level for her daughter. She wants relatively new books, not so
much the classics.
I already have a stack of books aside, but I HAD to ask the LM_NET

Thanks in advance.

We have renewed interest in a software program that monitors students when they are
online. Bandwidth is an issue in our building, and so programs that might use
significant bandwidth would be a deterant.

If any of you use such programs and might be able to provide suggestions, it would
be appreciated.

We are looking for books for an 8th grade student from Germany. He

studies ideas. So we are looking for something a little easier to
understand about the same time period.

Subject: HIT: ELEM Book title

Hi everyone! On Monday I posted the follwing request:=20

I have a 6th grade student looking for a series in which the characters
travel through swamps and forests and vocanoes and when they get to the
other side they go to the next destination (Which is the next book).
They see mystical creatures during their travels. These creatures are
"pretty mean" and try to eat the main characters.

I received several suggestions and today the young man came back and
confirmed that it was the "Deltora Quest" series by Rodda. =20

Other promising suggestions were Everworld, the "Divide" series by
Elizabeth Kay, the Bartlett and the ... series by Odo and Hirsch and The
Edge Chronicles . I'm including these other suggestions because they
all sounded like they would appeal to the student, so they might be
something for him to move on to.=20

As always, thank you for your help!

Subject: Overdue Notices

Thank you so much for all the responses I've gotten.

=20

I am just stuck between a rock and hard place as far as this goes. Our
school does not have an all school email system. We have what we call
Power School where students and parents can see grades, announcements,
etc. =20

=20

At this point I have no idea if we can integrate Power School with
Destiny so that students and parents can see library information. Our
tech people haven't figured out how to make Destiny and Power School
jive yet. I have had to put a lot of information into Destiny by hand
because of this. Today I have been working on getting photos and some
other information on Destiny. Basically it is a save to hard drive and
then put into Destiny process as far as the photos go. I know there has
to be way that Destiny can just "get" this stuff from Power School but
our tech people haven't figured that out. Anyway enough griping from me
on that.

=20

Today I have been running a vote between what teachers prefer to happen.
English teachers handing out notices or Seminar teachers handing them
out. It's a tie vote. So I am just stuck right now.

=20

Between technology short comings and people simply not wanting to make
the effort to help us I just don't know what to do.=20

=20

I would post a list but I have gotten in trouble for that in the past
because of confidentiality issues.=20

=20

So there in lies my total dilemma. So much technology and so much
confusion. :-)

=20

Again I thank you for your responses and I will keep many of them in
mind.

Subject: GEN: Channel One

Channel One put in the new digital headend this week, and I'm impressed! =
The old system had a huge, heavy box and assorted smaller boxes because =
we are a Neilson-monitored site. The new box is about 1/3 the size and =
weight of the old one, and everything is internal, with the exception of =
the vcr that we supply to make tapes for the Channel One Connection that =
teachers request.

Prior to the new system, if a teacher requested a C1C show the day it =
aired, or if we weren't in school the day before, or if I forgot, the =
teacher was out of luck. Now, EVERY C1C show is recorded and kept on the =
hard drive for 30 days. I can make the tape anytime within 30 days of =
the time the show aired. That alone is going to make my life much =
easier.

Even though this may sound like a commercial for Channel One, it really =
isn't. I understand that I'm one of the earlier schools to get the new =
equipment, and I wanted the rest of you to know that it is definitely =
worth waiting for.
=20
Oh yes, the network connection? Not needed. From the time they sent out =
the letter announcing the switch to digital to the time they actually =
started installing the equipment they upgraded things. I think =
everything now runs via the dish antenna outside.
