Maybe this has happened to you. It happened to me again today. One of my very favorite things about my job. I got to see a middle schooler skip for joy over getting a book! This time it was a sixth grade girl who had been coming in every day to ask for a particular book in a series. The minute I saw her, I told her it was here. When she got it, she clutched it to her, and SKIPPED out of the library. I've seen it several times a year in the five years that I have been a middle school librarian. It hasn't just been girls, either. Some of my boys have skipped for joy over books, too! Each time it happens, I try to freeze the image in my brain. That way, when all those silly, annoying parts of the job start piling up, I can balance them against that image of a middle schooler skipping with joy holding a book and remember that I have the best job in the world! It is amazing how far those good images can carry you.
