This morning I was paging through the Best Inventions of 2007 in the November 12th issue of Time magazine. On p.87, they highlight "an ATM for Books." According to the blurb, the Espresso Book Machine can "churn out a 300-page paperback on demand, complete with color cover, in just 3 min" for only $3 a book. It predicts that this invention could "transform libraries into minibookstores, making hard-to-find titles as accessible as cappucinos." Right now, the machine costs $50,000, so I don't think we'll see one in my library anytime soon.
