I do make a point during orientation talks to let children know something like, "I know that some librarians expect you to be silent in the library, but this is not a silent library. You're welcome to talk with your friends as long as you respect that some people are in here to study or read." If anybody is disruptive, I deal with it case by case. If I think a teacher is going to be receptive, I might tell her, "Finding the right book is a very social process." Some get it, some don't. But I agree, I wouldn't contradict a teacher in front of her class. /************************************************/ /* Bob Hassett, Head Librarian */ /* Luther Jackson Middle School (081) */ /* 3020 Gallows Road */ /* Falls Church, Virginia 22042 */ /* (703) 204-8133 */ /* Bob.Hassett@fcps.edu */ /************************************************/ See you in the Library! -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
