A teacher of 4-yr kindergarten is incorporating Spanish in her daily teaching. She asked me if there is a name for the genre of books which use other language words within the context of an English language book. That is, not a bilingual book that has the entire text repeated in a second language but one similar to Los Gatos Black on Halloween summary: Easy to read, rhyming text about Halloween night incorporates Spanish words, from las brujas riding their broomsticks to los monstruos whose monstrous ball is interrupted by a true horror. More to the point, even without naming this group of books, could you recommend some titles for our PreK-2 school library? I told my colleague that 10,000+ librarians world-wide would certainly be able to help us!
