I've followed this for quite some time partly because I thought the video was interesting and partly because I got my Bachelor's degree from K-State in 2000 where the video was made. I have to disagree with those that keep saying that these are basically a bunch of kids that expect to be catered to in the academic pursuit of higher education. As a teacher of English and History I was taught (at K-State no less) that if the majority of my students are not picking up what I'm laying down then the problem is with me the teacher, not the twenty-five students in my classroom. Technology is booming everywhere and these kids are raised with it all around them from baby Leapsters to instant messaging cell phones. Then we want to ask them to sit still for 50 minutes with a college lecture that hasn't changed in twenty years? Seriously? The only fault I saw with the video was the implication that the professors do not know your name in large lecture classes. I've been in those same lecture halls and been surprised when a professor was not only able to call me out by name outside of class, but pronounce an awkward spelling correctly as well. Chi Anne McGrew (shy anne) Graduate Assistant University of Central Missouri BTW- KSU is Kansas State University which is located in Manhattan, KS. While there is a fair amount of diversity for a college town it would be nothing like the other Manhattan which might explain so many of the white students in the video. I doubt it was done intentionally. >>> Susan Jones <SUJones@PARKLAND.EDU> 11/08/07 11:07 AM >>> I decided finally to see this little thing. I have to agree with the commentary... looks like yet one more exercise in self-exploration (or vanity, to put a different spin) which is one of the functions of a college education. I couldn't help but notice also how very homogenous (i.e., White) the group was. Any implication that this is some kind of meaningful cross-section of a generation went by the boards.
