Below are the responses I received. Thanks so much for the input!!

Oh I had the same problem. I finally decided not to worry about it when
the letters disappeared they disappeared. It has been interesting
although it has been on the shelf since the beginning of school it is
not popular.

well-I flagged the book in cataloging that a student had to see me
before
checking it out. I figured at that time the student and I would go
over the
pieces together and they would be told that it needs to come back in the
same condition.
FIRST WEEK I OWNED IT-all the inerts disappeared. I could even
pinpoint it
to a class but I have never recovered the materials. Next time I
will file
the cover itself with nothing else on the shelf. Then when a student
asks,
I will pull the inerts and have the discussion.

I put it in the professional collection for teacher check out to use
as an extension of the books. I do that with any books with "pieces".

I thought about just punching out the letters... then I thought about
laminating the pages to keep the pieces in place.

I bought it without realizing what kind of book it is and I just put it
with the other Snicketts' and I am letting it just go.

it is reference in our library, we have not cut the pieces
out

Right now, I keep it behind
the circ. desk and sign it out to my die-hard Snicket
readers. So far, it is still intact! I don't
publicize it. They just notice it, because they love
"all things" Snicket. I make a huge deal about
keeping it safe and handling it carefully and they
seem to respect that.
