Dear 'Netters, At our school, our tech people have all the computers set up so that students must log in to their student account before they use any computer. As a result, in order to search our OPAC (Athena), they must log on first (lengthy operation) and then log into Athena. This time-consuming process discourages students from using the catalog. They end up asking where books are, and we respond with highly technical "pointing." Are many of you Athena (or other product) users in the same boat? Does anyone know if Athena be set up to run on a dummy machine without being linked to a school network so the catalog is always ready to be accessed? I'd like to change our current situation, and any information I can share with our tech guys would be great. (Budget constraints kept our district from buying technical support.)
