Or something like it in their school.

A history teacher and our theater teacher have been kicking around the idea
of a combo history through theatrical works course. If you have a course
like this in your school, please respond.

The library is not a shrine for the worship of books. It is not a temple
where literary incense must be burned or where one's devotion to the bound
book is expressed in ritual. A library, to modify the famous metaphor of
Socrates, should be the delivery room for the birth of ideas - a place where
history comes to life. Norman Cousins

Subject: [LM_NET] SHARE: Texas Teacher and Banned Book

This incident ---of the Texas English teacher / coach who is on "paid
administrative leave" because of a "challenge" due to a book on his AP
English class (for Freshmen)--- was posted last week. The first
article is listed below for those who haven't read it. The second
article is a "follow-up" to answer some questions that we all had
regarding the situation.

Unfortunately, the story isn't over...and a career (and a book) hang
in the balance. (Every time I read this story, I have a "flash back"
to the Scopes Monkey Trial...it's very much the same mentality....too
bad we haven't come very far since the original "monkey trial").
