National Book Award winners were announced tonight. Sherman Alexie won in the YA category for his first YA novel *The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian* (Little, Brown & Company) Check the website for other winners http://www.nationalbook.org/ If you haven't gotten a copy of the book, run and do so! I took a bunch of kids to the teen press conference for the finalists, and we got copies of the five books in the YA category ahead of time (thanks to the publishers) Four boys (11th graders) who are quite reluctant readers couldn't put the book down! Their teacher even came up to thank me! A word about the choices this yeare: We had students (9th through 11th grade) reading all the nominated books -- each student got a copy of ONE of the titles -- and there wasn't one teen who didn't REALLY REALLY like the book he/she read! It was a great bunch of books this year!!!!! Kudos to the judges. -- Rena Deutsch, Librarian Seward Park Campus Schools 350 Grand St. New York, NY 10002 (212) 475-4148 x435 rdlibnyc@gmail.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
