I agree with your principal. You are not stifling creativity if you refuse to promote a young person's actions which are unhealthy and harmful. Adult thought should prevail in this matter: this is a child we are talking about and he has been entrusted to your care. Allowing them to post material which has content that you do not want other students to be exposed to is reckless and immature. Plus, that student needs to know that the adults in his life do not agree with his thoughts on suicide and "cutting". Perhaps if you agree to leave it on there he will think that this behavior is "OK". It is not, and you need to make sure he knows your thoughts.
