[LM_NET] TAR: Books with sports as a feature in the plot

Happy Thanksgiving!

My daughter (a junior in college) is seeking titles of fiction books that have 
sports in it for a class she is taking.  For example, there is a Stephen King book 
about a girl who's lost in the woods and all she has is a radio, which she uses to 
tune into her favorite baseball team's games.  Eventually her favorite player 
becomes an imaginary friend.  (Not sure of the title of this book, but she can't 
use that one.)

Does anyone know of any titles that would fit this? (She is rather desperate!)
