[LM_NET] TARGET: book title needed

A first grader new to my school is trying to find a book he read in kindergarten 
last year.  Here's the description from his mother:  A man lives in Clevertown, but 
isn't clever, until he goes into the woods and makes a wish in a wishing well.  A 
clever elephant and pig had teased him before he became clever, and the man gets 
revenge on them and ties the elephant's trunk in a knot and the elephant says "dop 
it, dop it!" and "I dupod you dink dat fuddy."
 
This doesn't ring a bell with me--do any of you know what this book could be?
