Hello, On Tuesday of this past week, I posted a link to a pdf provided by the American Indian Library Association. The item is called I IS FOR INCLUSION, and is a follow-up to their 1992 publication "I is Not for Indian." It's 21 pages long, well worth reading. http://americanindiansinchildrensliterature.blogspot.com/2007/11/i-is-for-inclusion.html If you are using (or have used) Cynthia Leitich Smith's fiction about modern-day Native kids (JINGLE DANCER, a picture book) or INDIAN SHOES (easy reader short stories), you might be interested in listening to the two talks she gave at the National Book Festival in Washington, DC. She was there in 2002 and again this year (2007). I'm a big fan of her writing, and we did a conference presentation together several years ago (NCTE, Atlanta), but I wasn't able to go to DC to see her speak there. Cool thing, though, is that I found both talks on-line. I posted them on Monday, Nov. 19th. http://americanindiansinchildrensliterature.blogspot.com/2007/11/cynthia-leitich-smith-loc-webcast.html Also this week, of interest to elementary librarians/teachers, is an interview of Richard Van Camp, author of two beautiful picture books: WHAT'S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING YOU KNOW ABOUT HORSES and A MAN CALLED RAVEN. I posted the link to the interview on November 22nd. I also posted an interview Charlie Rose did of Sherman Alexie back in 1998. Have a good week, Debbie Debbie A.
