Can someone clarify this. I often see requests from this list for samples of Selection Policies. My question is: are Selection Policies the same thing as Collection Development Policies? I was taught, and have since had reinforced in workshops, that libraries create a Collection Development Policy that guides what is added to the collection and what is weeded. Ours includes: Our Mission Statement; An analysis of the patrons we serve (social/economic makeup) including a community profile; Where we receive funding; Our interlibrary loan policy; Chronological Coverage (how long we keep items); Formats we include; Languages we support; Selection Tools used ; Weeding Strategy; Gift Guidelines; and How we handle requests for re-consideration of materials. Is this what others of you call a "Selection Policy" or is that something else? Sharon Slaney, Librarian Timberlake H.S. Library 5973 W. Hwy 54 P.O.
