Thank you to those who sent responses to my posting for suppliers of low level AR books. Below are the suggestions I received: Orca Soundings series of books by a Canadian publisher Capstone Press?? They have great non fiction and at one time gave free AR tests. We are reading counts and they don't have our tests, but I buy their books anyway. You can't beat their non-fiction. http://www.quizlist.net/Search.aspx Click on the link and search by book levels. Clicking into the record through the title will show the publishers. Then you can search by publisher's name in the "Advanced" mode. Gumdrop Books is sending me a set of .3-9 BL books to preview. Haven't seen them yet, but it is so hard to find at that level, anything would be helpful. gumdropbooks.com phone 800-281-7199 I used to get the Welcome books. If you go into titlewave.com and search welcome books it will show you all the sets. You'd have to check the levels on AR, but I think most of them were 1st grade level. Some of the Rookie Readers have AR tests, you can look up specific titles also on titlewave. We used to have some books by Margaret Hillert that were lower level too, but some of them were as high as 2nd or 3rd so double check the AR level before purchasing any of them. Perma-bound Capstone, ABDO and Bearport are all good places to find such books. I would try Mackin.com I just bought some of the High Noon books (although I bought what I could from PermaBound and am moving on to Machin to buy more...) highnoon.com (I think) and the kids love them. I didn't go that low, but they might have some available. On the other hand, I find that students have a horrible time testing on really low books (such as Margaret Hillert books and the Rookie Reader series). I have had good success with Follett. You can search their Internet site by AR book level. http://www.redbricklearning.com/aspx/pIndex.aspx Thanks again to all who sent in responses. I now have several places to search for these books.
