Thank you to all who responded. The consensus is that most of you are not required to keep a list of the titles that you weed from your library and are QUITE HAPPY about that. :-) As for me, I am especially grateful to Kathy Graves, retired librarian from the county just to the north of me, for letting me know that Follett automatically makes just the list of weeds that I have to keep on file. (Kathy, as a librarian-in-training I visited your library several years ago. I learned so much from you then, and I am still learning from you now. Best regards to you in your "retirement.") Solution: “Go into your CC40 file in Follett, there should be a folder called Weeding or weedlog.txt and you will find your weeds listed there.” ************************************************************************************************ Hello,Although I have never been asked to show a list of weeded books to our Board of Trustees in my 5 years as district librarian, it has been my understanding that keeping a list is required by district policy. (Yes, I am looking everywhere to see if this is written down somewhere.)Over the years, I have had the library information specialists at each of the school sites make a bookbag with the books that they are discarding before they take them out of the Follett system. At the end of the year, they send me either a paper copy or a text file with this bookbag of weeded titles. This is cumbersome and still unsatisfactory because it doesn't give the price of each book deleted. Is there a simple(r) way on Follett to create such a list of weeded titles that has prices on it? I suppose I could just rewrite the policy on weeding and ask the Board to okay it, so we don't have to do this at all, but I would actually like to know what is being discarded, in case I have to defend these decisions someday. What is your practice for documenting your weeds, if you have one? I'll post a hit if there's any interest in this topic.Ginger Geiger, District LibrarianCentral Valley High SchoolGateway Unified School District4066 La Mesa AvenueCity of Shasta Lake, CA 96019530-275-7075bookspice@hotmail.comggeiger@gsd.k12.ca.us _________________________________________________________________ You keep typing, we keep giving.
